The Power of Decision

Posted on 06/04/10 Comments

If you read yesterday’s post, you know that I’ll be taking somewhat of a hiatus. I’m moving out early Saturday morning and will be going through some big changes over the next many months.

The support I’ve been getting the last day about this whole ordeal is just amazing. Emails, @replies, comments, all from awesome, amazing people. Thank you, really. You mean a lot.

One of the first things that comes to mind is, “Why announce all this to the entire world?“. I firmly believe it’s really key to be honest and transparent about things, whether it’s your business or life.

And we’re part of a wonderful community that’s feels more like a family than anything else. The amount of BS and lies out there can make one’s head spin. Screw that. Being real leads to awesome relationships. And you shouldn’t do it just because it’s a good strategy either.

In every problem, there is a solution. Most people wallow in their problems, obsess over their failures, and have the confidence of a mouse up against a snake. One of the key things that I keep coming back to is the fact that decision is one of the most powerful things in the Universe, next to love of course.

All of our lives, every second, every moment, is based on a decision. Each decision has an unimaginable number of ways of leading us to the next one, and the next one. Any decision, no matter how small, can lead to a life changing, life altering event.

We won’t always make the right one’s, but we must learn from and grow from the wrong one’s to get to where we want to go. The question being, “Where do you want to go?“. The truth is, your decision that stems from that question, may just be a wrong decision. Do we always know? Unfortunately not.

That’s the beauty of life. Everything is an experience which comes from a decision. We can’t know the future so our decisions help us get to that future. Once we get there, we see just where it’s lead us. Here it’s where most people continue to make the bad one’s. If we would just shift our focus, our mindset to the other side of the fence, we may just be surprised at what we find.

Focus on the best solution and go with your gut on the decision. 9 times out of 10, for me at least, the gut is right.

“What’s your experience with this?”

As part of my whole restructuring, I’ve setup a notification list for Next Level Social Media, the comprehensive, no BS social media education. It’s a ways away but I’m running through several ideas. Get on the list to stay in the know.

Well, that’s my que to get working on packing up stuff and soon enough heading out. Looking forward to hearing your experience with decisions in the comments.

I'm a dedicated RUSH fan, Mike. One of my favourite lines from their song 'Freewill' is "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice."In life, we either have to step up responsibly and choose our way through - or abdicate that responsibility to others or external forces beyond our control. The former is a far more empowered position ~ and as you've noted, it doesn't always work out as we hope; sometimes better, sometimes worse. But at least the path taken was of our choosing. And it can often be altered by simply making another choice, or decision - taking into account the new information or experience we've gained along the way.I missed your yesterday post ~ I'm going to go and read that now. I'm grateful that we've recently connected via Twitter though. You're a shining spirit in a world that needs you.
